Ginger was nearly packed when Hawk arrived home. “You’re late! You were supposed to help me pack, you jerk!” Ginger threw her pillow at him.
He caught it, and replied, “Sorry. I was on my way out when I heard something slam into the wall. I found Han still sitting in the conference room.”
She perked up, “Did you find out about this morning?”
“Of course, I did!” Hawk threw himself across her bed, knocking over a stack of her clothes. “What is this supposed to be for?” He picked up a skimpy red teddy and held it up to appraise it.
Ginger snatched it out of his hands. “Do you mind? I always pack one, just in case. Now, don’t change the subject! What happened between Jackie and Han?”
“I don’t understand why you want to know so badly. You’ll just get all depressed because he’s not in love with you.”
She picked up her pillow again and clubbed him repeatedly. “I didn’t ask for your connotations, now, spill!”
Hawk laughed at her. “Okay, okay, Jeez, you’re impossible!” He sat up, then continued, “Han dropped by Jackie’s for a quickie this morning, and Peter was there.”
Ginger’s jaw dropped open. “What?”
“Apparently, Jackie got smashed last night. Peter carried her home and took care of her.”
“She was pretty bad off when I left. Wait, when you say took care of, you don’t mean they…”
“Not according to what she told Han.”
“Like she’d tell him if they did! That’s borderline gross, anyway. Peter’s nearly old enough to be her dad, and practically a priest.”
“Ginger, don’t be such a bitch! Peter is an awesome guy. Besides, with her maturity level and intelligence, she’s closer to his age, than we are. I would’ve thought that doctorate in psychology would’ve told you that much.”
“Look, there’s a fine line between dating along your maturity level and being perverted.”
Hawk sighed, and continued, “Anyway, Han took it the wrong way, and said that Peter was either a monk or gay. Jackie slapped him and threw him out.”
“She’s so melodramatic, I swear. You watch, she’ll call him the second he gets to Oakwood, and they’ll be screwing each other’s brains out the whole time we’re down there.”
“I don’t know. Han thinks she was serious about not sleeping with him, anymore. It seems to me that she’s already made up her mind on what she wants.”
“What are you talking about, Hawk?”
“Peter stayed with her last night, she showed up at the meeting with him, and she left the meeting with him.”
“So, she used to do the same thing with Han, until he started running around again.”
“The difference being, Peter isn’t going anywhere.”
“Yeah, except back to Russia in six months.”
“Wanna bet?”
“Absolutely!”
“Fine. Let’s see…” a grin spread across his face, as he continued, “if I win, you have to wear that sexy lingerie of yours around the apartment for a whole week.”
She hit him with the pillow again. “Fine, but if I win, you have to wear it for a week.”
He took the pillow from her. “Deal.” He jumped up from the bed, and chased her around the room, tackling her on the bed. She was laughing so hard she could hardly breathe. He couldn’t help but stare. He lost himself for a second, and almost leaned in to kiss her.
“Look what you did to my clothes!” Her playful bantering snapped him out of it, and he rolled off her. “You are so folding them back up!” She sat up on the bed and looked at him. She saw the distant, embarrassed look on his face. “What’s wrong?”
He quickly recovered, and replied, “Just thinking about you in that teddy.”
She hit him with the pillow, yelling, “You perv!” They laughed and traded licks with her pillows.
